Frame Relay Switching

Frame Relay is a standardized wide area network technology that specifies the physical and logical link layers of digital telecommunications channels using a packet switching methodology. Originally designed for transport across Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) infrastructure, it may be used today in the context of many other network interfaces.

In this project we will simulate a frame-relay switch by a router.We will use hub-and-spoke standard for connect sites together.
We need to the below devices:
 
  1. One router as a frame-relay switch.
  2. Three routers for our sites.
  3. Three clients for testing connectivity (You can use loop-back).
Our network is like the below figure:

We start with our frame-relay switch, for this case we must config a router as a frame relay switch, its host name is “FrameRelay”:

Our routers are configured for frame relay but we can’t send data between our clients, so we must assign IP address for each client and also we must configure our Fast-Ethernet interface on each router:

Finally, we must set a routing for our routers, we’ll use static route:

R1:

R1(config)#ip route 192.168.4.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.253

R2:

R2(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.0.0.254

R3:

R3(config)#ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254

After that, our client can send data, we can check it by Ping.
